LEED is an internationally recognized green building certification system, providing third-party verification that a building or community was designed and built using strategies aimed at improving performance across all the metrics that matter most: energy savings, water efficiency, CO2 emissions reduction, improved indoor environmental quality, and stewardship of resources and sensitivity to their impacts.
Developed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), LEED provides building owners and operators a concise framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions.
LEED is flexible enough to apply to all building types – commercial as well as residential. It works throughout the building lifecycle – design and construction, operations and maintenance, tenant fit-out, and significant retrofit. And LEED for Neighborhood Development extends the benefits of LEED beyond the building footprint into the neighborhood it serves.
How DEAN STEEL BUILDINGS can contribute to your LEED Certification:
Achieving LEED Certification requires planning from the site development to the selection of building system finishes. Using a Dean Steel Building gives you the ability to earn points through various building system options. The following table shows these options and their point value.
Section SS 7.1: Heat Island Effect – non roof
Create covered parking using DSB color panels with a Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) of 29 or higher.
Section SS 7.2: Heat Island Effect – roof
Use DSB color panels with the appropriate Solar Reflectance Index (SRI) on the majority of the roof. Buildings with a roof pitch of 2:12 or lower, the SRI needs to be at least 78 and roof pitches greater than 2:12 require a SRI of 29 or higher.
Section MR 4: Recycled Content
The steel used in the fabrication of DSB’s buildings is purchased from vendors that use a high percentage of recycled content. Over 80% of the typical building is fabricated from steel materials that are produced from mill using more than 65% recycled content. An individual review of a specific buildings recycled content can be made upon request1.
Section MR 5: Regional Material
With three manufacturing locations, DSB is nearby to meet the 500 mile requirement. An individual review of a specific building can be made upon request1,2.
Section IEQ 8.1: Daylight and Views – Daylight
Light transmitting panels can be used to achieve these credits.
LEED requirements are based on all materials constructed under the project contract, of which the metal building is only a portion. Actual requirements may not be achieved once all materials are considered.
